Flooring
Kiln-dried floorboards of Eastern White Pine are available in random
widths of 8, 10, and 12 inch widths. Lengths are random 8, 10, 12 and
14 feet. The edges are ship-lapped and the boards are planed on both
sides. The thickness is ¾ inch.
Moisture Content
Moisture Content
The
boards emerge from the kiln at approximately 7% moisture content. They
are planed when they reach 10% moisture content (any drier and they
crack under the pressure of the planer). Stored under cover, they soon
reach the moisture content of the air, about 18-20%.
During the heating
season, homes are quite dry. Consequently, if you intend to install the
flooring during this time of year, we suggest that you allow the
flooring a couple of weeks in the environment where it will be finally
installed so that the moisture will have time to adjust.
Waste
Waste
There is little waste. Some boards do contain removable defects--such
as split ends or cracked knots--and thus we add 5% to 10% extra to
compensate for that which is unusable. We suggest rounding up your
order a bit on the pennywise, pound foolish principle. The expense of
shipping a few additional boards is painful.
Always in Stock
There is no waiting. We can ship whenever you specify. If you have a large order of several thousand feet, you would be prudent to give advance notice to be sure we will have what you want when you want it.
